Our adventure in Scotland

Monday
We arrived in Edinburgh on Monday morning and headed straight to a friend’s for a much-needed catch up and lunch. It felt so good to just sit, chat, and ease into the trip. Afterwards, we made our way to our little Airbnb — a cosy home base for the week — and picked up some food bits on the way to see us through the next few days.

Tuesday
We went into Edinburgh by train, which somehow made the city feel even more inviting. Lunch was followed by a spot of shopping, and then came one of my favourite surprises — a visit to a chocolate shop where I bought some fancy treats for the other half. We even stumbled into a Christmas shop… in August! I don’t know why, but it felt so exciting — like sneaking a peek at the festive season months ahead of schedule.

Wednesday

This was the day of the Highland coos! They were just as shaggy and charming as I’d hoped. From there we went to see The Kelpies before visiting the impressive Stirling Castle — towering above the town with views that make you stop mid-sentence. Afterwards, we made a quick stop at the Falkirk Wheel. We’d planned just a short visit, but ended up completely fascinated by how it worked and decided we had to come back for the boat trip experience.

Thursday
We kept our promise and spent the whole day by the Falkirk Wheel. Sadly, the boat trip was fully booked — but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was peaceful, and we spent the day people-watching, enjoying a little picnic by the water, and just… breathing. We ended the evening with a delicious pizza and a slow stroll along the waterfront and beach.

Friday
Our last day. We were flying back to Bristol in the evening, but not before squeezing in one final adventure — the alpine coaster! It was pure fun, full of laughter and a few “are we going too fast?” moments. Afterwards, we had lunch and watched the ski school practising on the slopes before reluctantly returning the hire car and heading to the airport.

It was one of those weeks where every day felt different, but each moment seemed to connect — friends, food, new places, and even a few surprises (looking at you, August Christmas shop). Scotland, you’ve left me with full heart and a camera roll I’m not quite ready to stop scrolling through.
